Research Topic

Native Vegetation for improving Shear Strength of Soil

Research Abstract

This research project focuses the use of native vegetation to improve the shear strength of the soft grounds. Trees increases soil strength through the suction and the root reinforcements. The reinforcement effect is captured through the analytical solutions for the root pull out strength and the series of laboratory and field experiments of the tree pull out test. Available suction models and root reinforcement models are combined numerically to estimate the influence of trees on the shear behavior of soft soils.
