Numerical analysis on spudcan foundations with large penetration into multilayered soils
Why my research is important
In the offshore engineering provinces and fields, highly layered soil profiles are prevalent. When a strong soil layer is underlain by a soft soil layer, the foundation may experience a peak resistance during penetration through the strong layer. After that, a sudden penetration may occur without any additional loading. This sudden penetration is termed ‘punch-through’ failure. This failure at the footing level can cause damage to the offshore structure being installed above.
